Visitor/Tourist visa avenues are available for people to enter the country for short-term stays.  These visas are called Visitor or Tourist visas.  The specific visa you need depends on your nationality, the purpose of your visit, and how long you intend to stay.

Subclass 600 : Visitor Visa

This is a versatile temporary visa that allows you to visit Australia for tourism, business, or to visit family and friends. It has several streams
The tourist stream is for individuals wanting to visit Australia for a holiday, recreation, or to see family and friends. This visa is typically granted for stays of up to 3, 6, or 12 months
For short business trips, such as attending conferences, negotiations, or meetings. This visa does not allow you to work or sell goods or services. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is decided. This visa permits a stay for up to 3 months at a time.
The Sponsored Family stream allows you to visit family members in Australia who are Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. To use this visa, a relative must sponsor you and you must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is granted. This visa enables you to stay for up to 12 months.

General Requirements

Firstly, you must genuinely intend to visit Australia temporarily and intend to return to your home country. You must also genuinely want to vist for tourism, business, or to see family and friends.
Secondly, all individuals must show they have sufficient funds to be self-supporting during their stay in Australia and have the finances to leave Australia.
Thirdly you and any family members included in your application must meet Australia's health and character requirements.
Another requirement is that you will need a valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining
Most visitor visas do not allow you to work in Australia, although some limited business visitor activities are permitted under specific streams of the Subclass 600 visa. The Work and Holiday visas are exceptions.
On a visitor visa, you can usually study for a maximum of three months. If your main purpose is to study, you should apply for a student visa.
