There are two main options for obtaining a partner visa:
a. Partner Visa (Spouse or De Facto Relationships)
This visa is available to individuals who are either married or in a de facto relationship. You can apply whether you are in Australia or overseas.
- Initially, this is a temporary visa. After two years, you may become eligible for permanent residency.
- Your sponsor must be your spouse or de facto partner (including same-sex relationships) who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
b. Prospective Marriage Visa (Fiancé Visa)
This visa is designed for individuals who are engaged to be married. To apply, you must be outside of Australia.
- The visa is valid for nine months, during which you must marry your fiancé and can then apply for a partner visa.
- Your sponsor must be your fiancé, who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
